Different Leon Voice

Leon in RE 2 has a different voice actor than in RE 4. I was wondering if the sounded anything alike. I've played the 4th one aboud 7 times, but i haven't played the 2nd. I love Leons voice in the 4th one so just wondering if they were similar. Dumb question I know. :P

it's interesting to know that Leon's voice actor's names are Paul

in RE2, he was voiced by Paul Haddad

in RE4, he was voiced by Paul Mercier

reply

RE4 leons voice was inferior to RE2 leons, RE4 sounded like he was 50 years old or something.

reply

Aww I loved his RE 4 voice. I thought he sounded hot...for an not reall person

Although no one liked him in RE2, his voice acting was much more believable.

I thought Leon sounded better in the second one. He sounds right for his age (a man in his twenties) and it was probably just me, but his tone kinda had this inexprienced sound to it. It fitted his ambitous yet naive nature. But in Resident evil 4 he sounds way too old imho, yet on the other hand it also fitted his more exprienced side.

reply

Yes they do. Leon in RE4 sounds like he's a little older. Different actors with similar voices. I had to look it up to tell them apart.

I doubt you check this post anymore, but in case you do....here is my opinion on Leon's voice differences. Yes, there is quite a difference, but I think in a good way. In Resident Evil 2, Leon was a 21 year old rookie cop. he was young, inexperienced, and not as tough. But in Resident Evil 4, he is now 27, has had special training, and has really grown as a person. I think they developed Leon into an amazing carachter who became more mature and strong willed. Leon is definitely my number 1 favorite Resident Evil carachter, along with Claire. I hope to see Leon in another installment.

"Although no one liked him in RE2."

That's not true at all. A lot of RE fans liked him back then... and of course like him even more today.

And Leon's voice in RE2 was much better.

reply

I liked him better in RE2. His character was more believable. In RE4 he is extremely to cocky and calm, I know hes had special training... but I feel like capcom tried to make him too much like Solid snake. The frequent radio chats with Hunnigan are also quite annoying, he continuously flirts with the chick even though his life and mission are on the line.

I love RE4, but thats probably my largest complaint; Leon is too cocky and unrealistic. I know he received special training, but that shouldn't make him a biggot. I had always assumed that the events of RE2 really effected him and disturbed him a bit, but in RE4 he seems to shrug it off like it was just inconvenient or something.

Actually, they tried to make more things like MGS. Like those codec rip-offs. And for exsample Krauser almost looks like Volgin.

And I share the same opinion as you.

reply

You gotta take into concideration that their 8 years (not 100% sure lol) different. Your voice changes over the year, and imo if you had the same voice actor playing it, it would seem odd. Just my opinion really.

I don't mind either. Both do a fine job.

And Chronoschain, i agree with the MGS bit! :)

So I said, blue M&M, red M&M, they all wind up the same colour in the end.

Well said. They could have just had the same voice actor voice Leon differently. But then again as you said they made Leon too cocky.... so maybe it was good that they didn't have the same voice actor. Why ruin his character even more.

Leon sounds hot in RE4.

His RE:4 voice acting is superior to that of RE:2. It's just he changed abit between games. I think they played up the one liners too much. But I liked his character when he wasn't trying to be a smartass.

Either way, hes my favorite RE Character

The writers of RE4 changed Leon's character... and not for the better and the the one liners didn't help. Leon's RE2 voice and lines were far better and more believable.

The change of his character in RE4 is beleivable at the begining of the game. He's acting confused and everything. He goes funny with the bingo line, but redemms himself for quit sometime. It really starts to change right before your get to the battle with El Lago(or whatever the big fish's name is)

He starts throwing in one liners and from there on, he'll have a moment where his character speaks like a real person in the situation would, but he always has to break it with the very bad one liners.

The quality of the voice acting(not the lines) is far better in RE4 than RE2. The voice acting in RE2 is all very awkward yet the lines are more beleivable. I liked Leon's character in RE4. They were going in the right direction in the begining then they kinda lost it. I still love him in both games.

Hopefully they don't screw up Chris in RE5.

Leon's voice matches his character and both actors did an impressive job.

I think Paul Mercer did an excellent job of Leon in RE4. He gave Leon the more aged, experienced tone he needed after his ordeals.

Paul H. was perfect as Rookie Leon, and Paul M. was perfect as Experienced Leon. Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games, and yeah, he had some corny one-liners but really, I think he was more or less being a smartass and trying to make light. If he were all doom an gloom all the time he'd most certainly be in a worse off place than with just the nightmares an emotional/physical scars.

In conclusion: Paul H. and Paul M. sound alike, but just enough to make it Leon then and now.
