They were the worst bullies ever I guess. But maybe just showed how the typical bullies will pick on the most vulnerable people and then back down when someone steps up to them. But Zack also was a varsity athlete and head honcho of the school. He was worshiped so you don't want to turn the whole school against you, I guess.
