Hamlet won best picture in 1949
Was it just me or was that final clue wrong? All the Kings Men won in 1950.

shareI didn't see the show so I'll see the clue on Jeopardy. I'm guessing you are talking about the wording of the clue. AtKM won in 1950 but for 1949. The Oscars are given the year after. Hamlet won in 1949 but for 1948.
If the year is the only thing in doubt, then who knows, but I'm guessing that there were other elements of the clue that satisfied the answer.
A Pulitzer winner in 1947 & Best Picture Oscar winner in 1949, its title is also a line from Lewis Carroll
The Academy Awards are given the following year of the films releases. So ALL THE KINGS MEN was the Best Picture OF THE YEAR 1949. Even if it was worded incorrectly, the other hint was that it won a Pulizer Prize; HAMLET obviously never won a PP nor did it have a line from Carroll.
Yes. I just saw the clue on the Jeopardy! Archive. Had they said "for 1949" it would have been better but given the entire context, it's pretty clear that it wasn't Hamlet.
shareAnd Lewis Carroll didn't write "Humpty Dumpty"; He merely quoted an existing nursery rhyme in Through the Looking-Glass. The reference to a line by Lewis Carroll is what threw me in trying to answer correctly.
I'd like to be a pessimist, but this is a luxury I cannot afford.—Joseph of Cordoba
Yes! I too was thrown by the Lewis Carroll reference.
Next thing you know they'll be telling us that Robert Frost was the first to say "Good fences make good neighbors".
he was a great writer.
