Lux having sex on the roof
Did she do this when her parents went out? You would think they could hear her fooling around on the top of their house. Not to mention her sisters. I guess Lux snuck out to get birth control.

The movie didn't explain her methods of birth control, but in the book she hid things behind the chimney and was actually very careful "...she laid down her catch phrase ultimatum: 'No erection without protection.' She often used sanitized pharmaceutical products; other times, presumably cut off by Mrs. Lisbon's blockade, she fell back on the ingenious methods devised by midwives in centuries past. Vinegar proved useful, as did tomato juice."
I recall skimming the book and the police found tomato juice and vinegar bottles on the roof after the girl's bodies were taken away. How do the two ingredients prevent conception? Wow her parents were some hard sleepers.

The book mentions that Lux often used 'sanitized pharmaceutical products' which I assume meant condoms. Since contraceptive sponges did not exist at that time, I don't believe.
But she often just used soda (agree: UGH) or vinegar. This is a very old-time 'remedy' that supposedly killed the sperm using acidity.
It is very, very poor in its effectiveness, and can even be dangerous to use.
