Kathleen Turner's final monologue *Spoilers*

Was deeply heartbreaking. "There was plenty of love in our home." I felt deeply for all of the characters in the film, but I felt the most for the parents. They didn't realize how overbearing they were. They felt they were doing right by their children.

Hail to the king, baby.

I saw the same thing. They thought that enforcing more rules would save them from reaching the same fate as their youngest daughter, but they never really truly knew exactly why every one of them didnt make it.

I also wonder if the girls really understood how their parents were going to respond. They knew their parents loved them, they weren't trying to get back at them. However, when you commit a mass suicide, there's no way to convey that reasoning via suicide note or any other communication.

At least that's what I got from it.

It's nice to see someone who agrees with me on the parents. Based on most of the reviews I've read, people have had nothing but negatives to say about their characters.

Hail to the king, baby.

Of course they didn't know. Parents like that will be completely baffled as to why their kids turn out screwed up for life and refuse to acknowledge that they themselves may have had something to do with it. When I watched that part, I said, "Get a clue, lady!"

I didn't really feel sorry for the parents, not for the mother anyway.
Its one thing to be overprotective, but they went so over the top it was crazy!

The mom makes her daughter BURN her records, just because she made a mistake on a date? The one & only date they were ever allowed on?

The book provides far more. The mother stops food shopping, cooking, even washing their clothes or cleaning the house! She KEEPS THEM COMPLETELY SHUT UP IN THE HOUSE FOR MONTHS ON END!
How could that possibly be good for them?!

"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

I didn't feel jack shi7 for those parents. they should have realized how overbearing they were when Cecilia killed herself.

and just because love is available in your home doesn't mean that is unconditional. their love seemed to be conditional. who does that???
