How was it possible for everyone to hear...?

How was it possible for everyone to hear Cecilia's suicide if they were in the basement with the music playing?

The father wasn't in the basement (meaning "at the party") anymore when the suicide happened (maybe he was somewhere upstairs in the house and saw his dead daughter from the window). He screamed "Cecilia!!!" and afterwards everybody at the party ran upstairs.

When a person jumps to his/her death from a tall building, one would hear a loud thud and literally feel the ground shaking. I realize that Cecilia did not jump from that high. Nevertheless, since she behaved oddly and then retired upstairs, it was quite natural for the parents to guess (or suspect) what had happened.

How was it possible for the parents NOT to hear Lux making whoopie on the roof!
