Threw their kids' photos in the trash?!! *spoilers*

The Lisbon parents threw out the family photos in the trash?! I could never have done that, they were my children!
And that proves they were nuts after all: they just didn't 'get' it.....even then.
THEY were 99% responsible for their childrens' suicides! Whether they wanted to keep them safe or not, you can't coop up your children for months and months and months and expect them to be sane and normal!
And when they left the house, they didn't even seem that upset considering WHAT happened!

I don't think you can even begin to pretend to imagine what that would be like.

They were in deep denial. Plus they wanted to completely forget it happened and move on with their lives. They ended up divorcing anyways because they couldn't take the emotional tragedy of what happened (staying married will only keep them in the past and remind them of what happened...which they didn't want to do). Plus everyone reacts differently. It defiantely wasn't your typical parent reaction to a child's suicide, but it's realistic.

I got the impression they just left and had someone else pack everything up and decide what to keep and what to dispose of. I thought they left everything.
So, the parents didn't throw the photos away. The person who disposed of everything in their house didn't know what to do with personal stuff he couldn't sell and tossed it.

But the idea that they left the photos behind indicate that they must not have wanted it, which is the same as throwing it away.

NONE of them ever noticed Cecilia's missing diary either. OR really talked about her.

Having buried both a father and a daughter, I have gone through the various stages of different types of grief.

There are times when you want to hold on to everything that the passed loved one owned. There are also times when you don't want to see anything that they owned or anything that reminds you of them because the pain is too intense.

I think that the parents were at a point in their grieving where they basically took their clothes and walked out and left everything behind. No pictures on the walls means that you don't have to face that memory each and every day.

If they had moved a month earlier or later, it would probably have been different.
