I don't quite get this guy.

He pursued Lux for ages, jumping through hoops.....later on in rehab, he talks about how much he loved her, so he obviously had feelings for her....

So why did, after they had sex on the football field, did he leave her alone in the middle of the night and never see her again?

It doesn't make much sense.

The film shows him, after he got home, sat on his bed, obviously regretting leaving her......

You'd think he would try and make contact again, or her with him?

He got what he wanted, one could blame lux for going to the field knowing she had a curfew. She was selfish seeing that her sisters were there too, and they would have to explain where she is. Trip was really messed up for leaving her like that for no reason. He just thought of himself, he set off a chain of events and then said he was sick if her in that moment was disgusting

I don't really get his motivation either - except he's a guy. I don't understand who was interviewing him as an adult though (Michael Pare). For a while, I thought he was also the narrator but I don't think that now although I'm not sure who the narrator is.
