Why were Jack and Karen always portrayed as the ones on top?

We're the writers and producers of this show just mean and false gay guys as Jack is? Always when there was some morality story told, Jack and Karen came out as the ones on top, the ones who had the upperhand. For example the ep where Karen makes Grace ask her for a loan, then when Grace does, Karen demands a presentation, then coldly turns Grace down. Then Karen gets stuck in the elevator and Grace doesn't help her out, demanding a presentation why she should. In the end she let's Karen out only to be locked by Karen and the crowd goes wild.

Why? Why, why, why? Karen was more than wrong in this episode, yet as usual, it's portrayed as if she's the heroin of the episode.

Locking someone in an elevator IRL is just so stupid! There's nothing funny about what could have happened while Grace was away! I just didn't find that funny in the least!

Yes that episode was really irritating and not funny at all. Karen can be an acquired taste at the best of times but she was just vile in this episode. Why on earth was Grace friends with her? Why didn't she hire a real assistant? It made no sense to me.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

True, it was like she paid Karen to do nothing but drink and be snarky. If I was Grace I would have fired her.

It's like none of you have ever seen a TV show before.

For the sake of comedy.

In general, it's almost always funnier to watch the more neurotic character suffer while their carefree (and usually less intelligent, less moral) counterpart succeeds. There's a comedic schadenfreude to it.

It's a comedy, not a morality play. No moral message should be taken from it.
