New DVD. Any differences?

I was at a store today and noticed there is a new 2007 release of this movie with a new cover. Does anybody know if there is any difference between this one and the 2000 release?

reply

I'd like to know too. Maybe this is the long awaited anamorphic version! :D

so, there doesnt seem to be any major differences except that the new version in pricier and has a shiny cover

THE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM

Doesn't seems to be a great difference, apparently the extras are the same (or perhaps even the old release has a couple of extras more)

The main difference I can see is that the new release contains a "Bonus Audio Track". I haven't heard it, so I dunno exactly what is that "Bonus Audio Track".

They could have remastered the video from the old release which have some problems with ghosting and blurring, although they are hardly noticeable. Also the old DVD wasn't anamorphic (BTW seems that the new DVD is not 16x9 enhanced neither).
Other than that I don't see any improvement in the new release. The only reason for the new DVD seems to be "double-dipping" the hardcore fans.

Anyway, if somebody have seen both versions, please tell us if there is a noticeable improvement in the new DVD. thanx in advance.

What exactly is a keep case, and why is it a special feature?

English Language Anime: Dub it, don't pervert it.

reply

Well, in the advent of DVD, they were made with crappy flaps that clicked close. A keep case is just the case you see now-adays. and it isn't a special feature, it's just Manga being *beep* about their DVD releases. Which reminds me, any report on the new DVD vs. the old?

reply

I've seen Keep Cases advertised as special features on DVDs from a number of companies.

English Language Anime: Dub it, don't pervert it.

reply

Yep; it's just an excuse to list one more thing. For example, Warner did this release of the Big Sleep, right? It was in one of those flap cases and was a flipper disk with two versions of the flick. Then, a year and a half ago or so, they release a brand spanking new version that, wait for it, is now...
IN A KEEP CASE!
WITHOUT A FLAP!
So basically, that's the gist of what a "keep case" is. Mind you, there is such a thing as cases you can keep, like box sets or cases with cool translucent sleeves and the like, but 7 times out of ten, you're just getting the standard crap case, but you are being specifically told what you are getting. I suppose that should count as an extra, on second thought. Companies being at least that forthright about their products. The actual "Perfect Blue" DVD is a whole other topic, but I digress. A LOT.

Old version is 75 minutes; new version is 83 minutes. Still trying to find out what the extra minutes are.

I haven't found a running time for the Blu-Ray version.
