This movie really reminds me of Angel Heart (1987, not the anime)

In the way that it really pulls no punches in the storyline twists, geez, could they really put any more shocks in either film? I don't think so...

I think this was perhaps inspired by Angel Heart (1987), who else agrees with me?

reply

Not to disagree but I think it is honestly more inspired by Hitchcock.

Hmmm, I agree; but I was pointing this out merely because it brought up many questions about personal identity and how both main characters' ran away from it. Both also brought you into the terror and paranoia that both of the main characters' felt and the viewers do feel very confused throughout with quick cuts, changes and twists around every corner.

Some of us on the forums while able to appreciate anime and manga, may not have too much exposure (to Asian films, cinema, art) as others, but I don't think the comments were meant to directly compare Japanese films to western standards. I think the comments were just made to draw allusions to similar themes in the movie "Angel Heart".

I agree, but I feel that 'Perfect Blue' has a lot more levels to it than 'Angel Heart' did.
