Presidential name connections??

The main characters had names that were quite similar to the names of dead presidents of the United States: Norm MacDonald's character was Willard Fillmore (not Millard, but Willard), Dave Chappelle's character was Rusty P. Hayes (instead of Rutherford B. Hayes), and Danny Devito's character was named Grover Cleaver (as opposed to Grover Cleveland).

Also, there were some other presidential connections: the bald detective's name was Tom Dewey (named, perhaps, after the guy who lost to Harry Truman in the 1948 presidential election?); and the guy played by Sherman Hensley was named Chip Oswald (Oswald was the guy who shot JFK........ or DID he????).

Anyway, I have no idea why they did this with the names, with the possible exception that maybe, since the movie was made in 2000, it had something to do with the hysteria over the then-current presidential election campaign.

Funny, funny movie!

This came out before the 2000 election.

Also, Sarah Silverman's and Malcolm Stewart's characters are named Hillary and Roger, the name of Bill Clinton's wife and brother.

Don't forget Dewey, the famous American General.

Wow, I think you've definitely stumbled upon something there.

Has anybody checked to see the political parties of each of the presidents close to MacDonald's, Chappelle's, and DeVito's characters? Or if there is anything fishy about the deceased leaders' pasts?
