I cannot stand Kat

I am about a half hour into this movie, and I can't justify watching another minute without reassurance that Kat gets better. Seriously, her self important pretension is nauseating. Do people actually find her character endearing? I think I'm done with this movie.

You really need to watch the whole movie. It's based on Shakespeare's "Taming of the Shrew." Kat is the shrew so no, you're not supposed to like her at first. My goodness, that's why they had to PAY someone to date her. Both sisters grow and change throughout the movie.

I don't know how old you are and I don't mean to be snarky, but schools today don't seem to be teaching as well as they were when I went through. So I don't know if you ever studied Shakespeare in school but "Shrew" is a classic that has been done many times.
1-3) On IMDB there are 3 versions of "Taming of the Shrew," 1967, 1976, and a version in development w/ Anne Hathaway.
2) "Kiss Me Kate" is a wonderful musical based on this story, w/ incredible dancing and it features Bob Fosse's very first choreography. He was one of Bianca's suitors and choreographed his duet and I could tell right away.
3) "Moonlighting," that old TV show w/ Cybill Sheperd and Bruce Willis, did one episode based on "Shrew."
4) This movie, which really is excellent.

And those are the ones I know about. Go back and watch it all the way through, it's worth it.

I second those comments. This is a really good film and Julia Stiles is great as Kate.

I do find it strange when people post up during films and then wonder why they aren't enjoying or understanding them.

Unfortunately they do. Lots of feminists and hipsters see her as an icon.

Why did you get an F in English? DO YOU WANT THE BRITISH TO WIN???/? -George Washington?

She's 'the shrew' you're not supposed to like her at first.
Having said that, as far as I can tell she was only standing up for herself. At least she has a personality and doesn't just want everyone to love her.
Bianca I really don't like tho- she seems to not care about Kat at all.

What would happen if you read SHAKESPEARE and learned the story?

Sorry, it would involve reading.

Never mind.
