This movie makes out like assaulting men is ok I bet if it was the other way around this board would have thousands of feminists calling for the movie to be banned.
Think about it if joey broke bianca's nose and gave her two black eyes would you laugh would it be ok for the teachers to laugh about it.
Even kat justified kicking a boy so hard in the balls that he almost lost one and had to have an operation, he'll probably never have kids. So if a women grabs my arse would it be ok for me to put her in the hospital and disfigure her for life.
So are you saying your girlfriend beats you? How sad. Yes I have had many girlfriend and none of them have beat me thanks for your concern and I think domestic violence is wrong either way but you seem to disagree do you support men beating women too or just violence against men.
I think that the OP is just pointing a clear area of contention and hypocrisy within this film. Like the OP said, if a woman felt up a guys crotch, would the guy have the right to literally beat the woman badly (2 black eyes and broken nose)?
If no, then why does the female character in this film have the right to do it and for the action to be taken as a joke?
In all fairness, the first punch was in defense of Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Lovett). The second was for objectifying her and only being interested in dating her to get in her pants... as opposed to being interested in her and wanting a relationship - and he went above and beyond in that endeavor. Had Keegan pushed or somehow physically injured Bianca, and Cameron punched him, would the OP even have posted? No, it would have been seen as chivalrous. Boys and men have had the upper hand (especially white men) in intimidation for so long - and then they get bent out of shape when women or minorities turn their tricks around and the white male is the 'victim'. Wise up, boys... it's easier to play fair from the get-go than to let us use your weapons against you.
I think it's less about women assaulting men than it is about a jackwagon/bully getting what they deserve. It's funny for the teachers because he was a d!ck and someone finally put him in his place.
If it had been Cameron that beat him up, would you still have been upset about it? Because you don't seem to be upset about the fact that he assaulted Cameron before Bianca did him.
Would you still have posted, "so it's okay to beat men?" if Cameron got up and delivered the beating? (Because regardless of who's is giving the beating, it's still a guy getting a beating if we're talking the same character.)
You're making something into a male/female thing when it isn't. Bottom line is it's a bully getting his comeuppance, whether it's a girl doing it or a guy.
If Bianca was the bully and beat the guy up then yeah there'd be a problem, but given it's the other way around I'd imagine the majority of viewers are fine with him getting a broken nose.
I know am right imagine it was the other way around instead of kat the guy makes a joke about how a girl grabbed his arse once so he kicked her so hard she was hospitalised and could never have kids for rest of her life, would you think that was funny.
Or bianca has a fight with the black girl then Cameron runs over and breaks her nose and gives her two black eyes. Would the teacher still make jokes, does she deserve to be beaten for being a bitch.
Your just an idiot and completely ignore my points. The film didn't make out like that incident was ok but it did make out that violence against men is acceptable and funny if done by a woman. When you can understand the discussion feel free to join in.
Actually it seems as if he completely understood your argument. The issue seems though that he brought up a counter argument that seems very reasonable that would prove why your original liont is invalid, so instead of acknowledging his counter argument you try and deflect by saying he doesn't "understand". The funny thing is, the hypothetical situation you proposed of the scenario being reversed has happened before and it was one of my favorite scenes. It was in the movie starring Ryan Philippe and Benencio Del Torro called Way of the Gun. In the scene an annoying girlfriend is going off at the mouth at both Ryan and Benencio insulting them with very lewd verbal assaults, all the while telling them that her boyfriend (who is standing next to her quietly) is going to kick their ass. The part was played perfectly by Sarah Silverman. After her rant the boudriend tells them they are about to fight and offers the first punch to Ryan. Ryan chooses to punch Sarah in the face and concentrate on continually punching her instead of attacking the boyfriend. It was perfect. It was hilarious because like in this movie the person getting punched deserved their comupance and the audience was supposed to rejoice when it happened. It wasn't about man vs female or the other way around. It was about a jerk in society learning that there are consequences for their actions.
I agree with you- it's often true that a woman being violent to a man is seen as funny. And this film perpetuates that in some ways. Even the teacher laughs at him! And bianca is much more aggressive to him then he is to Cameron. Not saying he wasn't an annoying bastard, but still the double standard exists!
OP has a point. I remember back in Junior High there was a this girl Emily who would wear these double enforced wooden steel combat boots and she would kick the boys in the balls and kick their shins as hard as she could.
She often would randomly just attack boys and was even racist and racial with her beatings.
A lot of boys were scared of her because she would get away with murder.
I remember I said something that she didn't like she turned around out of no where and kicked me in the leg as hard as she could with those god damn steel enforced combat boots. She kicked me so hard she broke through my pants and tore up and bruised up my leg bad.
Everyone students and teachers witnessed it and I was sick of her getting away with murder so I acted extremely hurt and fell to the ground in agony and pain(She did really hurt me bad) but I really milked it overkill to make sure she finally got in trouble for this.
So several teachers and the principal got involved and she started crying cause she knew she finally got caught and would get in trouble. All the guys she attack with her boots came forward and she basically got the zero tolerance for violence final warning and if she attack anyone else she would be expelled from school.
As the OP may have touched on there is indeed a double standard, but if I didn't do what I did(overly milk the pain) and made it all dramatic then she would have kept attack random people over and over again.
Again the worst part of her attacks was a lot of the time it was purely out of racist hatred of non-white boys. She was a blonde white girl who would stomp on non-white boys thinking it was funny cause they were not white.
Many girls like he describes, actually exist. I knew quite a few myself in middle and high school, although none were quite as brazen about their violence against boys, as to do it in front of teachers.
The other guy has a point about Cameron getting punched. No one cares he got punched. There are a lot of movies where women get hit by men. In fights or wherever. At the end of a day, it's just a movie, and there are a lot of things that happened that wouldn't be acceptable in real life.
why do men have to propose? why do men not cry about the toilet seat being down and woman cry about it being left up?
why do woman always go for the balls?
get used to it it's life it's the way it is
as for that scene well. cleary the most painful hit was the knee to the crotch, and she that 'that's for me' so she left her most painful shot for her anger and what he did to her
Okay this would have a point with Binaca hitting Joey if not for the fact that it was defense. There's also the fact that men have twice the upper body strength as women in general, so men can inflict more damage. Using Kat's kicking the guy in the balls is ridiculous though. For the fact that he sexually assaulted her therefore it was self defense. You're seriously saying that a women is not allowed to defend herself or others?
