period joke was not funny snd just plain offensive

The classroom scene where that idiot boy says can she take her midel before lesson, thats not even funny. Period pains are not funny and its a tragedy that in this day an age we still have to suffer with this torture without any decent relief.

I hope you are being sarcastic. That is exactly the thing an idiot teenage boy would say....especially to a teenage girl like Kat.

I agree with the OP. Movies shouldn't be insensitive of a lady's menstrual cycle...period!!!

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time Del Boy, it's them that started me drinking!

I am a woman and was a teenager when this came out and I thought it was great. It is something the school douche is going to say. Make period jokes. I don't care. I'm not some easily offended snowflake either

You clearly didn't get my period joke!

I suffer more than most. I can barely get out of bed the first few days and painkillers don't help. And I laughed at this joke. What is it with sensitive people getting offended at every little thing?

Joey made the joke and he's the school douche bag. The joke fits the character. Did you also miss the scene where the draws the boobs on the tray and the penis on the dudes face?

reply

Lighten the F up. Yes, I’m a woman.

I hate that word: offended! So overused! Getting one's underwear in a wad over an old movie where people are ACTING is beyond ridiculous!

You really don't understand the context of this exchange at all.

First off, it was Joey the asshole pretty boy and popular kid who said it, and he was being deliberately insulting towards Kat and making fun of her womanhood in front of the entire class. It's considered extremely rude to talk about a young woman's period in public in front of the very people she has to see every day at school. Most people in real life don't go there, as an unwritten rule, particularly not guys.

Second, it was also some black humor regarding Kat being a bitch and blaming her behavior on PMS. (Even daddy brings up the PMS joke later in the film).

Third, at the time, we don't understand why she's that way, so it seems only slightly less insulting until you find out about Kat's personal issues, and her past relationship and history with Joey.
