This is what a perfect teen comedy should be like

It's been so long since I saw teen comedies that I actually found funny and enjoyable and not lazy, lame, crude, and cringe-inducing.

Granted, I am 25 so I have not been the primary audience for teen comedies for years now, but when I watch something like 10 Things..., or Mean Girls, and heck even some of the early 00s Rob Schneider films, I find them a thousand times more appealing, better acted, genuinely funny and not as cringe-worthy as today's teen comedies and Hollywood comedies in general. And I honestly do not believe that it is all down to nostalgia and having actually been a teen when those movies came out.

These days, the writers always make an attempt to appeal to a young audience by artificially plucking out certain trends popular among teens and young people, such as social media trends, the use of technology, social issues, the teen lingo etc. but the execution ends up being so awkward and inorganic.

Another great thing about this film is that most of the actors had great comedic timing and were actually talented. This is something that often gets ignored in teen films in lieu of perceived physical attractiveness of an actor or actress. People in this film look like actual teens.

This movie is a cut above the rest, but some other teen movies from this era, like She's All That for example, are just as cringe worthy, dry, and inorganic and silly (AND poorly acted) as anything you'd find from 2017. And then you have movies like The Duff, which was imo, a great teen film. I think it's a matter of something being a good or bad film, not really the time period it comes from.
