Best police show ever?

The best police show ever? ok, so fair enough, the standards have dropped slightly in recent years since they stopped using the books and did their own stories, but it still manages to combine biting black humour with serious drama. I've never watched the Bill or Rebus or anything, but both Morse and Frost, however good they are, just don't seem to be at the same standard as D&P. What does everyone else think?

So what's your plan? You take the big dark one, I'll take the little girl, and the Aussie will run like a scared wombat if things get tough?"

Prime Suspect and Cracker will forever be my favorite UK police shows.... Yet I'm fond of Dalziel and Pascoe. I think the mysteries can be a bit boring or maybe too complicated for little ole me. What I really love is the characters (Ellie and Wield)--and the words that come out of Dalziel's mouth.

I really love Dalziel and Pascoe, it is so nice to see a detective programme set in Yorkshire for a change! The characters are really believeable and each episode is two hours of shear brilliance! THey have a winnig formula.

Just went onto internet to look up pictures of Warren Clarke from my old favorite series Dalziel and Pascoe to discover that it is back. I wanted to post pictures on myspace.
But I don't see it on my BBC channel or local PBS channel line-ups over here in the States! Is it only showing in the UK? Who can tell me where I may find it again!

I am so sad that it has been back since January & I have been unaware!

It was such a real show, Dalziel was such a believable personality!

Help someone!

FYI, if you haven't seen Warren Clarke in Blow Dry or Greenfingers, they are both must see movies with him playing engaging characters!

Yes it was back in the UK in January I have no idea when it might be shown in the states or who normally shows it over there. I would assume whoever has shown the previous 9 series will pick up the 10th rather than some other channel.

Dalziel and Pascoe is very good show can't want until it comes out on DVD, another series you should check out is the Last Detective with Peter Davison series 1 is available on DVD, also the Inspector Lindley series also quite good.

i love love love this show, it just makes me laugh but it rely entertaining. i love peter in this show i think he is soo cute in it lol, and spicer is rely good too.

It is that, but let's give basic credit where it's due - to Reginald Hill. This is the best literary crime series ever and the bbc have beeen faithful to the character of the books, if toning down their brilliance somewhat. (Though I hear they lose faith with Hill's books before running out of them, only episodes up to season 3 have come to the states so far).

. . . a-a-a-and now Season 4!

Best cop show? Not even close. There are so many cop shows from the UK and I think this was, at best, middle of the road.

You have The Sweeney, Inspector Morse, Inspector Lewis, Touching Evil, Wire in the Blood, Waking the Dead, Silent Witness(although it declined), A Mind to Kill, Prime Suspect, George Gently, DCI Bank, etc.

I see it's almost a 10yr old thread, but some of these shows were around back then.
