Did anyone else notice that Cagney's The Public Enemy was playing at the cinema in the film?
I may be wrong but I thought it was set in 1928 - Public Enemy was not made until 1931.
An excellent film though, just watched it for the first time!
This movie is "historical fiction", so it's not really a total goof.
shareActually, I believe the movie takes place in 1931. When they are introducing the players to the town onstage, Adele mentions about Bobby Jones that last year he won all four majors, or something to that effect. He won the Grand Slam in 1930, so this movie would take place in 1931.
Plus, the market had obviously crashed by this time, which happened in 1929, so it was after that event.
did you also notice that at that time there was no nilon balls in existance? Redford showed a modern ball- when they did not exist yet- i love this movie- but still.....the ball....
