I wouldn't say "racist" so much as acknowledging a genre (like minstrel shows) that were once thought to be extinguished but still shows up in film and tv to this day. "The Green Mile" is another example. Basically describes movies in which a white put-upon protagonist gets assistance by a black person who only seems to exist in the movie to help the white man (or woman) overcome some obstacle.

I remember listening to Spike Lee's audio commentary for "Bamboozled" where he called this film "The Legend of N****r Vance"

Pretty sure the just-released "Feast of Love" has some similarities to this genre. Morgan Freeman plays a wisened soul who helps white people through their relationship issues. But I digress....

I see. Actually what im surprised with is the fact that there isn't much racism against Will Smith's character seeing as when the time the movie is set in.
