I reckon Morgan Freeman could have done a good Bagger Vance as well

What do you think ?

YES YES YES!

We've seen Morgan Freeman in the role of "older black man dispensing wisdom" in so many movies already (Glory, Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy to name a few) that casting him in the role of Bagger Vance would have been a cliche. So while I think Morgan Freeman would have done a far better job as an actor, I think the movie is better off without him. I also preferred having Vance and Junuh be closer to each other in age - that makes them seem more like peers rather than in a "father-son" relationship.

I completely agree with cowgoesmoon.

Morgan always does this kind of role, and he does it quite well. But in this case, it was better that Will did it.

Well I thought that this was an attempt to copy of the great roles of Morgan Freeman, and that, even though he did a good job, Will Smith could not keep up with Morgan Freemans performances. But I do agree that it would be an even bigger cliche than it already is, if Morgan Freeman had got the role, and because of that, I am glad they gave it to Will Smith. He is actually quite fun from time to time.

vbarone you are a fool.

Will smith is not a terrible actor at all and he did very well as bagger vance.

Will Smith was too young for the role. Morgan Freeman would have been ideal for it, although I am sick of him in that role. I don't know who else, but somebody at least 50.

I think will was good in the role.

I thought he was good too, but he was too young. His character had a type of simple minded wisdom that is much more natural from an old(er) character.
