shareI just saw the movie for the first time on TV tonight. Bagger Vance's true identity is never actually revealed. I, personally, believe he was a sort of Golf Angel, sent to help people with their lives through their golf game. Golf is often said to mirror life itself.

Actually he is supposed to represent much more than a guardian angel. It is considered to be a representation of Jesus Christ Or God.
His name comes from the Hindu deity named Bhagavan.

Some people say he is a Magic Negro. But he is much more than that. He is a deity or an agent of a deity. People get offended because he is black and not representing black stereotypes or discrimination's, but they miss the spiritual message. Don't forget, Jesus was pretty dark himself.
