Final touchdown a goof?

As far as I know it's a touchdown the moment any part of the ball brakes the plane while the runner is in full posession.
At that moment the ball is dead so it is of no importance if he lost it or not afterwards.
If any of the officials see it breaking the plane it will be called a touchdown.
If non of them saw that it doesn't matter if he hold on it in the endzone or not.
It will not be called a touchdown. Right?

Liked the film though.

Yeah, the rule is one it breaks the plane and you have control over it. You could stand directly in front of the endzone, poke the ball through (touchdown occurs at this moment) and then throw it towards your own endzone and it'd be a touchdown. The time you need more is when you catch it in the endzone, then you have to plant both feet.
