Albuquerque Aztecs! LOL!

After seeing this movie recently again on dvd I just couldn't help
but LOL at the end scene when Coach Tony D'Amato and Willie Beamon
had announced at the press conference that they were leaving the
Sharks to go out west to coach and play for the new franchise
the Albuquerque Aztecs. Now I once lived in this New Mexico city
for just five months and to this date there are no professional
sports teams in Abq. nor anywhere else in the state. Yes I realize
that this was just a movie with a fictional screenplay though in
reality the state of New Mexico is the 2nd poorest state in this
nation second only to Mississippi. NM doesn't have the economic
and financial resources to host and support any future pro sports
franchise. Not the NFL, NBA, NHL nor MLB teams nor even an
arena football league team. Plus with the small number of middle
class residents out there, the residents couldn't really afford
to pay for season tickets to support any local pro sports team.
And not even in Abq. which is the state's largest city with the
biggest population. Plus NM has a very high unemployment rate
all over the state so those people who live there and aren't
working for a living also cannot afford to support any sports
franchise at the professional level. Neighboring Arizona and
Texas have had pro sports teams for decades and that's because
of those two states being much more prosperous economically.
Just my own opinion.

With all due respect, I did not think Albuquerque could support a pro football team. They could have said a city like San Antonio or Portland.

You are so right in your observation and yes Albuquerque cannot
support any pro sports franchise since as I have posted how
this city is so financially poor. Plus the current Mayor Richard
Berry isn't someone who would even consider such an undertaking.
I lived there briefly and will never, ever go back!
