ripped out eye

How could someone pull out an entire eye out of the socket?

reply

Eyes aren't really held in by too much, just some muscle around the eye and then the optic nerve is the last line of defense. So always wear eye protection!

how about a helmet? how anyone could ripp an eye out of a helmet?

I've seen a few porn films where the 'actress' might have enough suction.

its pretty easy to get a hand underneath a face mask, and or through the eye part of the face mask, easier than you would expect, hence why guys where visors. and i think all it would take to get an eye out would be like two hooked fingers jammed into the eye socket and then doing a bit of a ripping motion.. and if it was in the middle of a play the person could have got his fingers in the dudes eye, then some one could have hit the dude forward and then with the momentum it just kind of gets ripped out.. lol.

though i do think it was a bit over the top for sure, they wanted a shocking scene and a guy getting his eye ripped out is pretty gross and shocking lol.. i do think its possible to do though, but i don't think anyone is that messed up to actually do that to another football player. and i would guess the guy who did it would get some jail time, or at least kicked out of the league.

it probably has never happened in the nfl, and if it has im sure you could find footage of it by now if it did ever happen. but who knows could have happened in a college, or high school football game, or one of the smaller leagues.

I did not understand that eye thing either. If someone could get their hand in the helmet and they punched the person, they could break the bone surrounding the eye. If someone was to rip the eye fully out, they would need to be able to grasp it. That is the part that makes no sense whatsoever.

A blunt force to the side of the head can actually make the eye pop out.

After that its only a matter of getting the popped out eye tangled in to something...

Have you guys never seen Steven Segal rip out tommy lee jones's eye in under siege? lol.

if Segal can do it, it has to be possible!! lol.

Whenever players are interviewed about what happens in a pile up for a loose ball, biting, groin grabbing, and eye gouging are always mentioned. A former Raider recently admitted on 60 minutes to purposly breaking someones fingers in a pile. So the eye scene is probably included based on these accounts, and what could happen if it went too far.

Maybe, with a little bit of luck, they'll stab you next.

Leon 'Vader' White had his eye pop out of the socket when Stan Hansen punched him in the face.

Didn't The Bride essentially use three fingers to rip out Elle Driver's eye in Kill Bill Vol. 2? Granted that was Tarantino being over-the-top but I can see yanking an eye out that way being possible but squicky...

reply

While not a common injury, it's definitely realistic.
I saw it happen when I played in high school, at practice no less.
It's not a "ripping" motion, and requires no grip ... a simple violent poke through the facemask did it to the guy on my team.
The defender was reaching for him to tackle him and his outstretched hand went inside the helmet through the sight opening.
Push your finger up under your eye and apply just a little pressure ... it's definitely easy to see how a violent collision that way could dislodge your eye from the socket.

I an't even watch the movie for that scene alone. Eye injury stuff totally freaks me out for some reason.

reply

I couldn't see the point of the scene really. Unnecessary in my opinion.

I suppose the purpose so they could have the line about 'a slight eye injury'.

reply

I don't care if it is possible or not, the scene was totally out of place and unecessary. There were enough injuries in this movie at that point. The eyeball scene was the one big flaw of this movie, the only thing that annoyed me, everything else was brilliant. But if anybody accuses this movie of using cheap tricks to generate publicity, I cannot say anything against that, just because if this stupid scene.

reply

What version of the movie does the eye scene appear? I remember seeing this scene not long after the movie first came out, but I only got around to watching it in full recently on cable -- but no ripped-out eyeball scene was to be found.
