Isn't 5'9' way too short to be a quarterback?

Jamie Foxx is just 5'9". Wasn't that always the knock against Doug Flutie - that he couldn't see over his own offensive line at 5'10"?

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

He looked bigger in the film. And while 5'9 QB's are not commonplace, both Drew Brees and Russell Wilson are less than 6 feet and quite successful. So as long as you have the essential skills and intangibles someone will take a chance.

reply

Drew Brees is 6 feet tall. Listed on the roster as 6'0

reply

Media guides always usually give more height to players. Most that have played with Brees or against him have said he is slightly shorter than 6 feet.

reply

I agree, I met Drew Brees when he was playing college football at Purdue and he was slightly shorter than me. I'm 6'0 to 6'1, somewhere in the middle. I'd say Brees is realistically 5'10 - 5'11.

reply

And he probably only looked bigger because Al Pacino is so short.

Russell Wilson is only 5'11". And he started at quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks when they won the Super Bowl.

reply

Doug Flutie was 5'10" when he played which many considered too short for an NFL quarterback. One of the shortest quarterbacks to make the Pro Bowl.

reply

Jaimie Foxx himself played quarterback in high school, so I think he can surely explain how a 5'9" quarterback can succeed.

In the NFL (and Canadian football), Doug Flutie was a star, and I think he was closer to 5'9" than 5'10" .

Still, it would have been more realistic to have gotten an actor who was over six feet tall for the role.

reply

Watch a Saints game and how Drew Brees slightly lifts his head to see down the field before he throws. It is because his linemen are way taller than him.

reply

It's a movie, where at no point did they tell/show the audience his height. With a theory like that, what would be the point of having actors in just about any movie.

If you have to title and author your quotes, they aren't worth quoting.

reply

High school and NFL are completely different. My sophomore year of high school saw a 5'6 QB start. That would never, ever fly in the NFL.

reply

He was acting genius. Acting means playing something you aren't.

reply

I think you missed the point genious. The point is why not get someone to play the part who may be more realistic.

Would they get a white guy to play Muhammed Ali? It's just acting which which means playing something you're not. Please never try to get a job casting movies

reply

Because Pacino is short, he comes off as average height. It doesn't matter what his real height is.
