Did General LeMay ever acknowledge or admit that....

Kennedy's methods and tactics worked out better for all concerned (rather than if he had acted on LeMay's advice and wishes ?

reply

I don't know about "ever."

In the immediate aftermath he called it the worst defeat in US history.

"Morbius, something is approaching from the southwest. It is now quite close."

reply

I shudder to think what may have happened had Kennedy done what LeMay suggested. It was discovered years later that not only were there more missles on the island than originally thought, but most were operational with ground commanders given control of each site. Amazingly, and thankfully, nobody hit the button.

reply

Yes we are all fortunate that Kennedy did not blindly listen to the generals.

reply

I think if Nixon was in power he would have gone with the Chiefs
