This movie is great
Unique plot, good acting, a few thrills. What more do you want?
shareI agree
shareI agree as well. I have always loved this film since I first saw it (its creepy, eerie, dreamlike and haunting, with great acting and atmosphere, and a truly amazing soundtrack). Plus, it has some great visuals as well. Definitely an underrated film.
"Godspeed, Spider-Man!"
I agree and it has made me seriously question some of the critics... Great script, acting, directing... The only thing wrong with this movie are the ratings...
shareI never listen to 'official' critics. It seems like they're notorious for rating horror movies low, simply because they're a horror movie. In some cases they've trashed the movie without having even seen it.
shareIt's very good
shareExcellent horror film, with strong performances.
"I've learned our choices always matter to someone, somewhere."- Daud, Killer of the Empress
I believe because of the subject matter and opinion of the catholic church, a lot of critics trashed it without even seeing it. I remember reading a lot of critic reviews when it came out, and many said Arquette's character was possessed by the devil/Satan. Um...no she was not.
Some critics may also have been paid by the church to stomp on the film.
Everyone I know who has seen the film loved it: the acting, music, photography, thought, everything.
Excellent horror film ...It's always classified as a horror film, but I don't think it's spoiling anything to actually note that no one (in the version I saw) gets killed, which in itself is kind of rare in the genre. That's not to say the movie is not creepily unsettling.🐭 share
Horror doesn't always have to be about a body count though. Horror is a pretty broad category and they lump a lot beneath it but there are a lot of different sub-genres in the horror category. Although, when most people hear 'horror' they think 'slasher' movie. A lot of my favorite horror movies have either a low body count with very low-key deaths or none at all. But then I also enjoy a lot of others where the deaths themselves are the feature.
Very underrated, and one of my favorites :) Bryne and Arquette have great chemistry, and the effects are really awesome as well.
History is written by the victor. History is full of liars.
Great movie indeed. Most criticism probably came from uptight religious reviewers. Same as The Da Vinci Code, except I consider Stigmata to be a better movie.
