What happened to the tapes?

Who has stolen the tapes found in Liz's home? What happened to them?

(Spoilers!!! Spoilers!!!)

This event was not mentioned again later in the movie. However, since we know later who the murderer was, presumably he was the one who knocked John Travolta unconscious and took away the tapes to destroy them.

Thanks Henry, you are right. I watched the movie for the second time. In the flashback when Travolta is at Moore's, the murderer, which turns out to be Kent, is shown hitting travolta as he was stealing the tapes.

In the book, the local sheriff took the tapes and destroyed them. His reason was he was on the tapes and so was his son, and he didn't want the son to know he was also sleeping with her.
