A very disturbing movie ...

Fine performances by all. But this was one disturbing movie. A General who decided to put his career before his daughter's crisis. Sadly there are folks out there who would do such heartless thing ... make such a heartless decision. And some of the scenes were a bit over the top such as the rape scene. These training maneuvers are heavily monitored to keep the "training" environment relatively safe. And for someone to be left there til dawn seems very unrealistic. But Hollywood wants the viewer to think otherwise. Travolta's and Stowe's performances were by far the best. No matter the project Travolta does his best to give the audience their hard earned monies worth. I had to dismiss some of the dialogue as absolute falsehood and again this is Hollywood stretching reality a bit. And then there's the scene with Stowe and the West Pointer that became no more then a rabbit trail and the manner in which Stowe is addressed by the West Pointer was very much out of character.

The movie was a bit unrealistic, but I do think the director did a good job with the rape scene. It was short, but conveyed emotions very quickly. The rape scene in the book was a bit different though. In the book, she was held to the ground with tent pegs, but I believe she was raped in the woods and left there. Her clothes were scattered, so she had to get them and walk back to the camp. I haven't read the book in a while, so if I'm off by a little bit, feel free to correct me.

What I really liked about the movie was Stowe's and Travolta's performance. Travolota's sarcasm and dark wit added the perfect touch to the movie.

I do agree that the movie was a bit unrealistic. Stowe's dialogue is what I mainly disliked. For example, her interaction with Jake Elby (when Travolta was interrogating him) and how she tricked the West Pointer into giving her information. However, Hollywood does this with a lot of movies.

Are you by any chance ex-military? Just wondering, because you kind of sound like you are. I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just wondering.
