Soldiers with Red Berets?

Who are the Soldiers wearing Red Berets at the end? You see them as the General pulls up and there are some standing near the plane. Not everyone is wearing them, is there a significance to them?

All Airborne Infantry receive Maroon Berets, with the exception of 101st according to a buddy.

Tan-Ranger Units
Green-Special Forces
Black-All other units

There are still a few "other" colors throughout the army but many of those are only allowed because they were pre-1980 designation. The entire thing has been done and re-done way too many times as Black used to be the Rangers color and that was taken away too boost morale across the rest of the lines. Tan was the standard issue for years.

Hope that helps a little, I know it's confusing as hell but most things are when it comes to an over 200 year old institution.

Right on the money profundity, personaly I hate the freakin berets, their hot, their hard to take care of, and their pointless as hell. Even in class A's I would just prefer they just go back to the C caps.

I have to agree with marky3085 110%, us old guys that had to earn them felt pride in being part of something pretty special.

Amen. The beret meant as much as the two little scars on the left upper chest. :)
Airborne!
