Really good film

I am fascinated by the occult and now and then I do a "light dive" into it. And this film being an occult film was really good to watch. I'm also a book collector so this film was right up my alley.

Performances were good. The film was really well put together and worked really well. Johnny certainly smokes a lot in this film. Wow.

A review on IMDB said the film itself is a riddle. It has so many mysteries and clues, that it requires a couple of viewings, maybe even more, to notice and understand the underlying themes and the clues itself.

Very entertaining watch.

I'm a big fan of this film. It's probably my favorite Polanski film which is saying something as he also directed Chinatown (1974), Rosemary's Baby (1968) and Repulsion (1965).

The genre this belongs to is something I adore. Mystery/Noir Horror/Thrillers.

Other titles that may interest you;
- Angel Heart (1987)
- Cast a Deadly Spell (1991)
- John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns (episode 8 from the first season of Masters of Horror)
- Lord of Illusions (1995)
- The Spider Labyrinth (1988)
- In the Mouth of Madness (1994)
- Hellraiser: Inferno (2000)
- The Exorcist III (1990)
- The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988)

Eyes Wide Shut (1999) is some what similar too I guess.

It's an excellent film, but it should encourage you to stay away from the occult rather than run to it.

In the film, everyone who gets involved with the book ends up deceived and dead, except for Corso, and I think that based on what we see earlier in the film we should conclude whatever exactly Corso is walking into at the end of the film, it's probably not going to be good.

Satan is a deceiver and cares nothing for those who follow him and the promise of great power and fulfillment is an illusion.

A good thing that he's imaginary, then!
