i think it started all the way in season 4 episode 1. when tony yell at the capos that they dont earn enough.

then tony becomes a degenerate gambler who is constantly angry about the fact that he dosent earn enough. the 200k vig from hesh was another thing.

then the fight between tony and camrmella in season 6 where tony was angry that he dident bet the money on some team.

in season 6 tony become obsessed with money when in the first 3 seasons he always was kind of laid back and it seems that back then he was much more financially stable

if true, imagine how much worse Tony's financial state would have been if the show had carried on a couple more seasons, given what happened to the economy in 2008

hes dead and even if he was still alive he would have been in jail for life. i mean the fbi recorded him talking about the bevalaqua hit on tape. that and all the other things they collected on him

yeah, maybe that's what the ending was about. I guess no matter what we speculate happened after the fade to black, he was fucked in a number of ways.

one way or another it was all over for Tony at that point
