Ralphie's Version of The Card Game Robbery.

I've always been dubious of Ralphie's version of the infamous card game robbery. Some of things he said I think are just his way of rationalizing in his own narcissistic mind why he didn't rise higher in the family and faster. And other parts are just lies.

What we know for fact based on the two times we heard the story. When Tony and Jackie Sr. were young and unmade guys, they robbed Feech LaMann's card game. They had guns, but didn't fire any shots, and no one was hurt. Thanks to their family connections, they were given a pass, and never really punished in anyway for it, aside from giving back some of the money.

But here is where Ralph exaggerates the truth to fit his needs. While I'm sure the robbery helped Tony and Jackie's status in the family, it probably wasn't the reason they each became made guys so young. They were both smart, well liked and leaders, and had the right family connections. But Ralphie's ego wouldn't be able to accept that they were just better and more respected in the family, so he blamed the card game robbery for why he rose so much faster than him.

The part I think he just flat out lied about was why he didn't go with them. According to him, he was supposed to, but got the clap from a hippie broad he was banging. Whether he had the clap or not, no way he misses the robbery over a leaky dick. So it's either he chickened out at the last minute, or Tony and Jackie never invited him to come along. Maybe they knew he was a psychopath and if he went then he would start shooting, and they would eventually be killed. Ralphie may have been hurt that they didn't bring him along, and when he saw the positive effect it had on those guys, he changed the story in his own mind about why he didn't go.

Oh my! You do realize I hope that the Sopranos is a work of fiction. Nothing was ever discussed or filmed. Ralph simply followed the script he was given

Actually it was discussed. Twice. I posed the question over whether one of the story tellers was reliable.

Ralph simply followed the script he was given

No, Ralph is a character who was telling a story, that may or may not have been accurate. Joe Pantoliano, the actor who played Ralph, was following the script.
