Jake was married to the Russians.

Upon juat having finished watching this movie for the first time, I conclude that this movie very well operated from a much more neutral source and left hardly any traces or clues as to how the story's true ending came to be. Except, there are subtle references to FAMILY and protecting the family, and, in Jake's case, he was most likely married to the Russian mob, but didn't even know it.

Has this idea ever been explored?

I just finished watching this movie..... loved it, but I don't see how or why it should be Jake's wife was Russian mob. The Russians only came after Harris because they didn't get their midnight money drop, and were looking for him.

I like to think that Smiley or the Bloods told the Russians where to look for him, especially sincethey wouldn't want to be accused of keeping the money and killing Harris themselves....

But either way, there is no logical reason to think or need for the Russians too have anything more than a financial/revenge reason to off Harris..... not to protect Jake.

Harris? Quite the non-conformist aren't we, do you actually think you sound clever? Idiot!

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

The first time I saw this movie, 2001 in the cinema, I had it in my mind that the Russian woman who drove up in the minivan was Jake's wife. But no.... Thought maybe you were referring to her in the end scene.

Why did you think Jake's wife?

I don't get at all how that could be inferred. There's nothing in the film to suggest that Jake's wife had anything to do with the Russian mob. Why would she?

Time wounds all heels.
