First Time Watching - Jake's an Undercover Cop, Right?

I'm at the part where Alonzo takes Jake to that man's house (with Dr. Dre and crew) -- this is about half way through the movie. They've just carved out a piece in the wooden floor and have discovered some kind of *treasure chest.* Jake is not taking any of it, despite Alonzo's offering and the other guys taking some for themselves. But, I'm watching carefully and thinking... Jake has to be some undercover cop playing the good guy role.

In the first few seconds of the movie, the camera catches a shot of what looks to be a home-made altar with Jake's photo at the center, as if he has already died. This is why I'm sure he's not exactly who he seems to be to Alonzo. His wife knows. He knows. He's in it as an undercover cop sent in to bust Alonzo's corrupt operations within the L.A.P.D., right???

Just finished. All I can say is, Alonzo had it coming to him. King Kong had nothing on him. But for $1M, the Russians sure had something on him. It comes back to family... The foreshadows seemed like they were there and just got stronger and stronger. Jake didn't allow for Alonzo to speak about his family. He shut Alonzo down ASAP on that. Come around to Smiley with Jake in the bath tub scene and how Smiley let Jake go based on the fact that Jake saved one of Smiley's family members earlier that day. Or how Sara needed to get to her baby who was calling out for her (not his daddy).

I didn't get a good look at the Russians, but I heard enough about them to conclude that they asked Alonzo to show up with money just so they would know where he would be at a specific time that day. Alonzo was a dead man walking. Whatever he had done in Las Vegas might have been a set up by the Russians to begin with, or whatever it was. But Alonzo had it coming. One million or not, the story is: an eye for an eye.

My theory: Jake came from the Russian mob -- or was married to it and not even know it.

There's an alternate ending where the 3 Wise Men send Jake in undercover pretending to be a rookie. After Alonzo is killed and Jake goes home, they approach him and mention that the Russians got to Alonzo and ask where the money is. Jake informs them that he turned it in as evidence like he was supposed to.

Thank you. This is confirmation that my interpretation of Jake could have truth in the end and that the movie-makers were onto this specific idea (Jake as the undercover cop), as well.

However, I'm not finding any enthusiasm for Jake's wife tie to the Russians.

The only thing is though if that were the case I think Jake acted too green. Eager to please is a dead giveaway when you're trying to hide something.

However there's absolutely no indication that Jakes wife was tied to the Russians nor any evidence to suggest it was something the director ever intended. People need to let that one go.

The scene with the 3 wise men sending Jake undercover to expose Alonzo's activities wouldn't have made any sense. Alonzo himself went to them to talk business, money, fake warrants, etc, why do they need Jake when they got their target incriminating himself in front of them?

If that's what was originally intended I'm glad they dropped it.

The films entire driving dramatic force came from Jake being a rookie who was assigned to Alonso and finding out through the course of the day that Alonso was a twisted person.

If you add that element in of Jake being undercover it would let the air out of the entire film and rob it of its #1 asset.
