What's so special..

Can someone please explain to me what is so special about this movie? I rented it last weekend, basically because I am a Joaquin Phoenix fan and I heard that this was the only movie that he's ever made that he actually enjoys watching himself in. So, I saw it. And I want to know, what is the big deal? Sure, he was fantastic in it, as was Charlize Theron. But Mark W. gave a very one-note preformance, as always, and the rest of the actors in the movie were just ok.. not great and definately never getting to the level that Joaquin and Charlize got to with there characters.

The movie to me was just ok. It was just SO slow. I couldn't believe how slow it was. The last 30 minutes were fantastic, especially the scene with Mark/Joaquin/Charlize with the fighting and my favorite, the scene at the near end with Joaquin/Charlize which was absolutely breathtaking.

I just didn't get what was so great about it that it's the only one of his movies he enjoys watching.. I hope it's not because of the movie as a whole, because it was very average. It was the acting that kept it playing in my VCR. If he wants to watch himself once, why not in something like Walk The Line or Gladiator? Good, if not great, movies? Lol.
