The director's commentary...

Did anyone else see the film with the director's commentary and come out thinking it is a better film? After hearing James Gray explain all of the details and the meaning of each character I actually have more respect for him and the actors. I also love that he refused to make any one character good or bad- they were all more complex than that.

I did think more of the film and am glad I took the time. I didn't understand quite a bit of what he was trying to show with the symbolism or why he wanted the set decoration to be certain colors. "...And now he's thinking of a time when he thought..." I didn't catch that without the director commenting on it.

I also like to watch these films a third time if ever the director comments on something I missed. It's quite educational if the director commentary is included on any DVD.

My god, yes. Watching the commentary put helped me to realize why Iiked the film. The director is so interested in making every aspect of the film multilayerd. It's the best commentary I've ever listened to. It also inspired me to take another look at American painter Edward Hopper.
