Pirates Amusement Park

I'm a Cinemajunkie !

Does anyone know where is the Pirates Amusement park ?

The amusement park they used in the film. Is it still there today ?

Did this amusemen park produce a bunch of bad movies to promote there parks ?

The one thing that surprised me durring the footage of the amusement park (Pirates World) was there was a ride that looked like a horses on roller coaster tracks.

Kids were sitting on the backs of plastic horses, ridding these things on these roller coaster tracks around the amusement park. It looked fun but they had no safety belts on and those things were way up in the air. Plus moving fast !
Today it would be a law suite waiting to happen !

This ride looked like it was cool and fun but I don't think they would allow it today.

Pirates World opened in Florida in the late sixties and closed by 1975. Once disney world opened in 1971 - this place was doomed.

Thank God for Disney!

The ride you're speaking of is similar to the Steeplechase ride that was at Coney Island many years ago.

That WAS the Steeplechase ride from Coney Island. That was part of how they build the park... They bought old rides from other amusement parks. I asked my Dad about Pirates World because it looked so familiar. And sure enough I did visit the place when I was about 9 or 10. My older brother ans sister rode the Steeplechase ride. Trust me, my dad may be 85 but he remember amusment parks. He took us to Disney World, about 2 months after it opened. I guess you could call him Clark Griswold driving the family truckster to Florida.

Pirates World was in Dania Beach... right between Ft Lauderdale and Miami

There's a web page devoted to Pirates World at a site for Florida's Lost Tourist Attractions. Read all about it. http://www.lostparks.com/piratesw.html

Probably through Google. I was looking for the correct spelling of "Pirates World" -- is there an apostrophe? (Answer: no.) Glad you liked it!
