So in a town that size...

There were about 10 kids and they were all around the same age ? That's a bit unbelievable

I don't know what you mean by "that size." You mean a town that big or a town that small? The news said about half the town had gone to the mainland before the storm, so really all you must believe is that the ~200 who stayed on the island for the storm had about 8 kids of the same approximate age.

Except for the teenage boy, Davey Hopewell, he's an exception. I believe in a small community, a few women might get pregnant around the same time and inspire other couples to try for children.

There are probably more kids of various ages living on the island.

Agreed MintBerryCrunch. We don't see at least half the island's population. They mention that about half left the island before the storm and that the older children were being kept on the mainland because the reach was too rough too cross by boat.

As to having 7 or 8 kids about the same age. Maybe they just had a cold winter a few years back . :)
