Think about it. With this movie, Nickelodeon fell into a trend of making all of their good shows into movies, as well as introducing new characters to the shows whenever ratings dipped. Now look at the state nickelodeon is in today. They roll out a new show every 2 months that is gone in another 2 months. This movie cost Nickelodeon its soul.
Correction. This movie made Nickelodeon what it is today. If this movie never happened there would've never been Jimmy Neutron the movie, which by the way won an Oscar. Rugrats continued after the movie and they made another one a few years later. If anything, you should be talking about Disney Channel, which is a total mess.
yeah nickelodeon is pretty much a joke now and not funny at all, and yeah when dil was introduced it was disappointing, but i remember when i saw this movie when it first came out, after watching rugrats since it first started i actually love this movie and after 10 years i still do
Weel, as a father of 3, I dont have the choice of what is on tv in my house and I can safely say that there are only 2 shows on nick worth watching. iCarly and Spongebob
I was thinking the other day that Nickelodeon is pretty awful now, but then I wondered if it's just because of my age. Kids today love Nickelodeon, just as I loved it when I was younger, when I was the right age for it.
Try thinking of it that way, has the quality of Nickelodeon shows gone down or is it just because we got older? Think about how old you were when you loved it and whether you fit into the channel's demographic at that age.
The more I think about it... the more I know you're right.
I was forced to watch this about a month ago. It had been awhile since I had watched it, but yes, this was a terrible excuse for a movie.
Although the movie I think just made me hate nickelodeon is the spongebob squarepants movie. While 'The Rugrats Movie' jumped the shark, the spongebob squarepants movie killed it off entirely.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Weep and you weep alone.
I think your exaggerating with this. This movie opened the door for Nick to release more movies, which was never a bad thing. Personally I love that my favorite show was getting this much attention and was going to have a big screen release. The rest of the films were just as entertaining.
It's not the shows it's the people that run these networks. They forget about the viewers and simply want to throw in cheaper shows that will make them a quick buck and then get them off the air as they're not quality material. The only show that has managed to survive the Nick world up to date after the "downfall" of Nick, has been SpongeBob Squarepants, which is not my personal favorite at all. But other than that Nick has lost it's quality and overall signature.
I think the movies were a great way to wrap up things, I mean every show has to end. I just wish they would have written good goodbyes for these shows instead of considering sequels for every movie.
Sorry but this was the beginning of the end. Rugrats became awful and unwatchable after this. Everything changed - the dynamic of the characters, the animation, the music (Oh the music! It was nonstop all of a sudden).
I personally still love this movie. As an updated movie viewer, it definitely has its flaws but it's still enjoyable. I think Nick just over reacted after this movie release and got all super excited they went quantity over quality ('cause yes, the episodes after this did go down hill BUT not in a way the show lost its quality. Like one said, the latest Rugrats episode were not as great but they're not bad either).
Nick got too hyped up with other new shows and eventually, this got shoved aside and the crack turned to crumbles from there. Nick isn't nick anymore.
Haven't seen this movie in years, still I remember enjoying it, the scene with Angelica in the woods or Tommy all alone with Dil, in my opinion were awesome, the movie focused on sibling rivarly and friendship with fun songs, now the shows after it were different, not in bad way, but they certinaly lost their creative touch. I grew up with Rugrats good show, good movie, after shows, were alright. No one has to agree with me, if you don't like the movie, that's fine, was it the downfall of Nick? Maybe, I enjoyed Jimmy Neutron, shows more than movie and the Fairly Oddparents. Nick has changed because generations have different interestes, or maybe their out of ideas. The downfall wasn't the movies fault, it was the people working on the show and any new show, CN now that's dissapointing me.
absolutely not! this movie was great! Nick was still good until the mid/late '00s! THAT is when it all got shot to pieces! after Drake & Josh ended is where it began for everybody (for me, after Declassified ended)! it's beginning to return to form with House of Anubis, but it still has a long way to go!
This movie is just...depressing. The visuals (outside of the main characters) are dark and bleak. Everything has this visual feeling of melancholy. It's like the whole film has a giant storm cloud hanging over it. Even during the indoor scenes. The voice acting is over done. They all sound over exaggerated. The inclusion of songs was not needed. Why take a cartoon devoid of musical numbers and make it a musical? And the drama of it all is too intense as to be off putting. Tommy's breakdown at Dill in the rain is waaaay to dramatic and over the top. After that scene I just thought to myself...these are BABIES! The show was always good at keeping the emotions of the babies in perspective. Nothing ever felt over it's depth or forced like in the movie.
I was disappointed as a 9 year old in the theater watching this and even more so as an adult re-watching it.
I think this movie was great, but did mark the end of my interest in Nickelodeon.
However off the top of my head I know SpongeBob, Invader Zim, Rocket Power and Drake & Josh all came after this movie.
The most logical conclusion is, duh, we all were the right age for Nick 15 years ago, when this movie came out. We aren't supposed to get the same entertainment out of Nick now, it is a network for kids.
But at the same time, the drop in quality is hard to argue. A show like Are You Afraid of the Dark has many corny moments today, but many of the episodes are creepy and memorable. The idea of a new set of characters and stories every week is pretty impressive. What's comparable on Nick right now?
