Torture and turning boys into torturers

One thing I dont get is after all the post vietnam trauma soldiers suffered how come no one ever says anything about the obscenity of turning a soldier into a torturer? For the rest of their lives, the act wil haunt them and destroy them from inside. The defence would be for them to completely step over the line and start to justify it to themselves. If they came from a good home once they left the actual army/navy etc and went home the difference between daily life and their role as a torturer would end in mental anguish and probabaly suicide. And yet we see from those studies done on students who pretended to be prison gaurds that anyone can become a torturer. It when they stop their pain starts. And those students who pretended to be prisoners were never the same again either because their best friends had tortured them.

You are turning perpetrators into victims here... It's not like they never had a choice. A soldier can still refuse an order, no matter how hard it may appear to be.
So no tear for torturing soldiers from me...

Man, you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet. And when that "omelet" is your safety?

FYI- Card carrying Liberal here. Go ahead and begin the ad hominem attacks.

reply

Yeah and as long the eggs ain't your own, you would break all eggs in the world four your own "safety". Basically you are saying that you don't care about ethics, morals and other people as long as your needs are being satisfied. Thank god, not everybody thinks like you do.

Nah man, I just feel like the world is more gray than it is black and white.

Pol Pot needed a bullet in the head.

You twat! Pol Pot was installed by Kissinger and the Americans. I hate you idiot right-wingers!

"A soldier can still refuse an order, no matter how hard it may appear to be."

Whoever wrote that has NEVER served in the military.

There are three options to such a scenario:

1.- The order is legal, the soldier CANNOT refuse. Refusal results in at least court martial (that carries a DD at least), and if in wartime, even execution.

2.- The order is illegal, but while you try to prove it you still get court martialed and is anyone's guess if the higher powers will see it your way.

3.- The order is SO illegal you can get away with disobeying it (like the soldiers who refused to join in on the Mai Lai massacre).

So unless you're in the last scenario, you really CANNOT refuse, unless you don't care much about the rest of your life (a DD will taint your professional life FOREVER since on every job application above flipping burgers it will come up).

Your make some interesting points, unfortunately your complete ignorance about PTSD makes it hard to take the rest of the post seriously.

Yes, PTSD is real. No, it is not related to how much soldiers get paid.
