So what was the signifigance of the cartoons?
Great film. Epic in its own category. In your opinion, what was the signifigance of the cartoons?

shareFor the style, it was part of the multi media mix the director chose.
For the story, it was the decider of it all. How long it takes Lola to come around the dog, decides most of the rest of the story.
Very well said
I love the cartoon bits. I think part of the significance of them is, as you said, to highlight the crux of the story each time; the tiny difference which everything else hangs on.
The animation is disgusting. Fits nicely with the rest of the trash heap that they call a movie.

And your favourite movies are: Starship Troopers, The Thing.
WOW!
I see you are Starcraft fan, which sort of explains it, but come on, you have very little understanding of what a good movie is..
Liking Starcraft doesn't automatically make you a moron, you know! Although apparently it doesn't exclude the possibility, either...
shareActually I like Starcraft a lot, I follow Korean pro scene, it's an awesome classic game and definitely the best RTS of all time :P
I'm just saying that as fun of a movie Starship troopers is, it really is simply, well, bad in terms of quality.
I doubt someone who says that it's his favourite film can appreciate the message movie like "Run, Lola, Run" brings..
Totally agree. And the repetition is just unbearable. In Groundhog Day they at least had the decency to not show everything that happened. Many events in this movie are shown a full three times for no apparent reason.
And what about the random people that she bumped into. Just claiming that Lola affected their lives in a butterfly effect-like way doesn't make it interesting. It was just three different scenarios per person that could/couldn't have happened. But they don't at all connect to Lola's story. Why should I be interested?
The dialogues were mostly crap. It could be overseen if the movie really only was about the running, but when the conversations have such profound effect on the story the screenwriter really should have put more time into them. They sounded like something copy-pasted from your average soap-opera. Embarrassing.
The concept of running around trying to find money actually has a lot of potential, but it's not properly utilized. The events that happen are either completely uninteresting and unconnected from the story, or just too far fetched. Either way they fail to engage me at. At all.
Oh and Moritz Bleibtreu is a really, really crappy actor.

i think the reason the director used the animation specifically on this scene is because it's very dangerou for a real person torun that fast down the stairs. lola was bitten by the dog and fell from the stairs so ou know its all tricky. tom could have used the nimation in other parts of the the film if all he wanted was a multimedia mix but he used it in this part for Franka's convinience. =)
shareThis film is said to be modelled on Lola as a superhero, so i'm sure it has to do with the fact that shes animated, not quite human. There's my guess!
"I don't like the party scene. i just wanna sit on my arse and watch movies."--h£
And also, it was the 90ies, that kind of animation were pretty popular, at least in Europe, from what I can remember of it.
I thought Lola rennt was a good movie, but I didn't really like the animated Lola running down the stairs. lol I don't know why...I just thought it was strange looking.

I Twilight!
I think it's supposed to be an added visual aspect that is jarring and adds texture to the movie.
"I've got nature on my hand!"--Monk
it's another form of symbolism. it ties into the whole theme of the film that life is a game that we play.
shareTo lower the budget.. jk!
I think it's partly so you don't take the 'reality' too seriously and what qtpie90 said.
