Really weird coincidence

I've just watched "Merlin" for the first time. And since I'm good at spotting faces, I saw two people in it who also made an appearance in "Excalibur" (1981). They are Nicholas Clay, who played Lancelot in the older movie, and Robert Addie, who portrayed Mordred in the same.

It gets odder when you find out that both these stars sadly passed away at a young age with cancer in the last few years; Nicholas Clay in May 2000 aged 53, and Robert Addie in November 2003 at 43.

Wow, I would not have recognised them! Did you see them in later films or did you recognise them just from seeing them in Excalibur? :) But then, Mordred in Excalibur was just a little boy if I haven't mixed it up, so it would have been reaaally difficult to recognise him from that I should think :)

There's more coincidences though! Check out what other 1998 film Paul Curran (King Arthur) did ;) (he's still alive I think, I hope anyway!)

I'd seen Nicholas Clay in a few other things besides; I always thought he was very handsome and the BEST Lancelot EVER. He's sadly missed.

Robert Addie played the grown-up Mordred in "Excalibur". Maybe I wouldn't have spotted him, except that he once made a guest appearance in "Red Dwarf" in the early '90s, and when it comes to "Red Dwarf", I have a photographic memory from watching it about ten zillion times...! Another curiosity is that Addie's character in both "Merlin" and "Red Dwarf" was named Gilbert
