Sequel! MERLIN's APPRENTICE (2006)

I just watched PREVIEWs of an Upcoming New 'HALLMARK-Channel' movie (or mini-series) called: "MERLIN'S APPRENTICE" (2006)(TV), starring: 'SAM NEILL' & 'MIRANDA RICHARDSON.' It remains to be seen if this story ties into the Previous "MERLIN" (3 1/2 hrs movie) also starring: 'SAM NEILL' as the title role character.

Theoretically, it is indeed a sequel to the original Merlin, with Sam Neill and Miranda Richardson playing Merlin and the Lady of the Lake again (no Mab, however). However, the storyline differs completely from the first, the continuity from the first film is messed up, and all the locations are different. So it's not a sequel in the strictest sense.

Try not to panic. Just think of it as landing a little more vertically than usual

Yeah, you're right ofcourse.
I watched this attrocity the other night on the HALLMARK channel .... it sucked!!
I was hoping they wouldn't alter the time line or continuity too much ... but unfortunatley they did. I remember vaguely how the original MERLIN (1998) mini-series ended, except that MERLIN was trapped in the Crystal cave, or in that cavern (hybernating/resting) for many, many years ...when he finally emerged he was old (grown a long beard) and turned grey; then he reunited with his great love and rejuvenated himself.

That was the original ending ( I thinnk), not with MERLIN dying an almost pointless/meaningless death. And what the heck, I thought the 'Lady of the Lake' was supposed to be all pure and good, not evil and corrupt.

Merlin didn't get stuck in the crystal cave, he left to save Arthur and Nimue was stuck in it. The Lady of the Lake was just as manipulative as Mab, neither good nor evil.

According to www.wikipedia.org and some alt. sources, the Mythical character of "Lady of the Lake" was based on various legends and ICONS.

One story talks about not one but 2 or more Ladies in the Lake, one which was in love with Merlin (pressumambly the evil one), and the other one who raises Sir Lancelot, and creates Excalibur.

Through out the years in various movies, and books they tend to combine elements from various incarnations of this character, into one or more characters revolving around the Legend of King Arthur and Merlin.

Without Mab, it's not really that fun.

That really sucks, that Neil and Richardson would come back to do such a crappy half-**sed story just to get a paycheck. Makes me respect them much less as actors.
