Made for TV??? INSULTING!

I was completely and utterly suprised when i heard this was made for TV! That's horribly insulting! The acting. Rocked. The story. Rocked. The Cinematography. Awesome (seen in widescreen version, full doesn't do it much justice). I think this should be remade with some hollywood director, oh forget it, they'd screw it up...

OH MAN CAN U IMAGINE SITTING IN A THEATRE WITH UR FAVORITE SODA, DARK SETTING, HUGE SPEAKERS WITH SURROUND SOUND AND JUST HEARING THE OPENING MUSIC FOR "MERLIN" BEGINNING AND KNOWING THAT YOUR ABOUT TO WATCH THIS MOVIE IN A THEATER?!? I WOULD PAY HANDSOMELY FOR THAT!

reply

I too, cannot believe that it was made for TV.
It has been one of the best movies I've seen.

Well, at least I got to buy the DVD. :)

Now I need a sorround system. :P

reply

ahhh yes it was made for tv, i remember being in 6th grade staying up late recording it when it was first shown... what sucks is no one sems to know the song that was played during the traliers...

reply

if you think that is insulting, try watching the sequel "merlin's appretice' now that is insulting!! but yes, i agree it should have been in theaters

Sluty, they don't even wear knickers." - Kiera Knightly dissing Spears and Lohan

reply

I seem to remember it being "Orinoco Flow (Sail Away)" by Enya. And if it wasn't it must have sounded a lot like...of course, I could just be crazy o_O

reply

I don't know if "insulting" is the right word... isn't it just the opposite? Shouldn't the film be praised for being of such high quality as a television mini-series?

reply

i agree great tv mini-series one would of felt is this was hollywoodafied it wouldnt been as good, great acting, great affects, good old channel 4, incidently i attained this in a 3disc boxset which included gullivers travels again a tv mini-series, really good and flight of the navigator strange bundle but worth the 9 pounds

reply

Ha! I like all three of those movies! The first two were NBC mini-series. Flight of the Navigator was sort of an early 80s E.T. clone, but enjoyable in its own right.

reply

I thought it was a made for TV film... wouldn't it have to have had episodes to be a miniseries?

reply

I'm not sure insulting is the right word but I do agree that it would have been awesome in the treatres.

This was made in widescreen?

THE UK DVD releases have been 4:3. I take it that's P&S? I'll have to upgrade.

reply

Merlin's OAR is 4:3. The "widescreen" version is cropped. All "widescreen" versions of movies filmed for 4:3 - i.e. all TV movies - are in fact cropped, to make boobs who know the term "widescreen" but have no clue of aspect ratios think that they're actually seeing the "full picture".

For the record, most TV movies are shot in Widescreen now.

reply

They'd be better off digitally remastering it.

reply

i def agree.
you can surely tell it was made for tv which bothered me the entire time
because movies made for tv's picture is always crappy.
the picture reminds me of the PBS Scarlet Letter. blahhhhhhhhh!
youre right. digitally remastering it would be good
