what's up with young nimue's voice???

At the very very begining when Merlin first meets her. There's no way that's an actual woman's voice. It's just completely bizare and wierd... it sounds like some creppy man in falsetto... Did this freak anyone else out???

They must have done voice-over using the Isabella Rosellini who played her as a groen-up. I noticed the strange voice as well, don't think they should have done that.

reply

I agree, I noticed that too. I think they also voiced-over the young Morgan LeFey, and it sounded frankly, stupid. I didn't like a lot of characters' voices in that movie, I think it was way too exaggurated.

It was Isabella Rossellini doing a voice-over and not very well. Pro voice actors at least TRY to sound younger when they voice younger versions of themselves.

reply

im sure its just because they didnt want to pay the poor girl her full pay, so they had her pantomime, and just used a voice over. its stupid. it was made by hallmark entertainment, so you know they didnt have any money, besides that, i think they spent the brunt of the budget on those AWESOME! special effects! im being scarcastic of course.

Its particulary funny when Nimue is drowning in the bog. The young female actress's screams are her own, and then she shouts with Isabella's voice! Its really weird.

I just watched the DVD yesterday, and, according the the director's commentary, the actress who played young Nimue had a Scandinavian accent, much different than that of Isabella Rossellini's. So they had Isabella Rossellini do the voice-over in what was supposed to be a higher/younger tone. The director himself even admitted that it didn't have the effect he'd hoped for, but, due to time constraints, they couldn't do anything about it.

so you're saying women at 26 sound like men?

reply

If you look in the trivia section, it gives the name of the woman who did the voiceover, it wasn't Isabella. It looked Russian, but I'm a bad guesser at these things.

Isn't it nice to know alot? ...And a little bit not... *Little Red*

reply

No they're sating isabella did the voice over for the scandinvaean girl who played nimue. read it again. lol. (god i can't spell today, sorry guys)

reply

The trivia section says that Isabella Rosselini's voice was dubbed over the girl playing Young Nimue (who I'd guess is the woman with the Russian sounding name you refer to).

The problem with me isn't so much how her voice sounds, it just looks sort of odd when you're watching the film, because of the dubbing.

Try not to panic. Just think of it as landing a little more vertically than usual

I was wondering why an English girl, born and raised locally, had a French or Italian accent. Maybe Nimue's parents were from the continent?

No two persons ever watch the same movie.

"Maybe Nimue's parents were from the continent?"

It would have to be her mother, because her father, Lord Ardente, had an English accent, lol.

Maybe it's just what i've grown up with....but i've never minded the voice overs in Merlin...not even isabella's for the young Nimue...i just though it was what it was....and i though it was good voicing over the young nimue.....maybe it's just because i like her voice....
