Something about mary 2 'there's still something about mary'

Does anyone know the status of a sequal?

I heard tears ago the Farrell Bros. We're working on the sequal titled: There's Still Something about Mary,
But I can't find any news on the Web.

A sequal seems so obvious too me, personally I would like to see what Mary & Ted's relationship is like 20 years later, I'd also like to see the original cast back and what's new with them, Mary's in-laws, woogey, maybe Matt Dillion could be back maybe he's still obsessed and shows up in Mary's life 20 years later, there is so many avenues they could go in. The plot writes itself and the original is what? The 4th highest grossing comedy ever?,if you hear anything please respond to post. Thanks

Britneyfoxx is a stalker and she and her mom sends me Death threats everyday.
They are very mentally ill and in need of a lot of help.
I have reported her to the police, hopefully she will end up in prison soon since I'm not her only victim.

I like the idea of a sequel but I doubt it will happen, and frankly, I think the Farrelly brothers have lost their touch. Dumb and Dumber To was a disappointment and I REALLY tried to like it. The last truly funny movie they made was Me Myself and Irene, and that was 15 years ago. Maybe they have one more classic left in them. If they do a sequel to TSAM with the original cast it would have that potential. I wouldn't hold my breath though.

not sure how a sequel could work - Healy and Tucker are exposed as frauds, we know who Woogie is now, and Mary and Ted got their happily ever after. Any sequel would put a downer on the happy ending of this one and dilute our enjoyment of this movie. It's so fondly remembered because it's been left alone.

Agree, it's like what happened in Arthur II. In the first film, they live happily ever after. The sequel throws all kinds of crap at them to make up a plot. Better off leaving them with the happy ending.

I think comedy sequels generally don't work.

Agree, the only exception I would make would be the Vacation movies. I think Christmas Vacation (forget the others though) was brilliant and is even better than the original, although I think one can argue it's not so much a sequel as a stand alone Christmas movie using preexisting characters.

EDIT: I think Fletch Lives was pretty good and worth the watch, but generally, some of the worst sequels I've ever seen have been comedies.

I actually agree with both of your exceptions, and it's interesting that they are both Chevy Chase vehicles. Maybe success hinges on how much of the movie depends more on the comedic acting chops/performance of the lead as opposed to repeating the running gags of the original. (That's not to say Chase hasn't been part of some stinkers over the years.)

LOL, didn't realize they were both CC movies when I typed that! Good catch.

Except Ghostbusters 2 imo.

the Naked Gun sequels maybe - it's been many years since I've watched any of them, but from what I remember all 3 were of a pretty similar standard.

Gremlins 2 - if nothing else it's a self-aware sequel that isn't afraid to poke fun at itself
22 Jump Street for the same reasons

generally there's very few sequels that work. Even fewer in comedy
