the music totally ruined this film for me.

i kind of liked the film but the music was terrible. this is how not to score a film. that blur man was in his gorrilas bongo africa music phase. and it didnt work. shame. nice idea for a film but it should have got much darker and it could have been a great film.

Really? The score has always been something I really liked about this movie. It makes a nice change from the usual horror movie soundtrack, which mostly consists of weird atonal noises sprinkled liberally with sudden, loud scare notes. And I love that the music seemed like something that actually would be played in that era.

On a similar note, I've always liked that this movie didn't go the dark and serious route. If it had tried to be super-serious about the content, it would have been laughable. Since Ravenous seems to have a sense of humour about itself and its premise, it just comes off as fun.

Just my two bits.

I thought a that some of the funnier songs, like "Run," for the chase scene, made it all the more disturbing and unsettling. The warped and screeching string instruments were also a staple of the film, which made it as unique as it was for the horror genre.

Just the titles when they “Whoooooooshed” on the screen. Over and over. That sound was extremely annoying.

But the music in this movie, like most movies, is used to try to cover up for emotional gaps that are the writer’s and director’s fault. The “Run” scene was the best as I didn’t notice it, it added to it, as it wasn’t off-key to the direction of the narrative.

I always thought the music was the most effective part of the movie. Simple, yet effective. Especially when they were approaching the cave for the first time, and "Colqhoun" was all freaking out. Very unsettling.

As I consider Ravenous borderline dark comedy, I thought the music was more than fitting to the movie.

I'm a step further, I consider it a full-blown dark comedy and the music is brilliantly done. Doesn't detract from the movie at all for me. I can't even imagine a more traditional score.

I also have to disagree with the OP. The moment I heard the first set of banjo music I knew I was in for a treat. This is a great movie. Pretty sick, but not to the point of disturbing like Begotten or Saw. I was almost hoping the cast would break out into song and dance like in Cannibal the Musical. Ravenous, to me, was like a darker, creepier version of Cannibal without the pants-wetting antics of Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

I must admit sometimes it doesn't fit. At least it's not as bad as the movie from "A Knight's Tale".

Interestingly, this is one of my favourite film scores. I've got it on CD. Absolutely adore it.

So rather than a successfully experimental film with a great deal of individuality, memorability, and loads of entertainment value... you want a cliche, dime-a-dozen, Hollywood shockfest?

Opinions, by definition, are generally not able to be wrong...

Congrats on changing that fact.
