Question about opening scene

How does the general come to the conclusion that Boyd is a coward?? Because he got sick during the meal and vomited? All it shows is Boyd getting grossed out by the meat on his plate, then vomiting, and 5 seconds later it cuts to the general telling him that he is a coward and sending him off to California.

Any thoughts?

Because Boyd told him the full story of what happened, as he was obliged to do

Thanks, I had not realized that Boyd had given the details of his cowardly behavior. No wonder he was banished to Fort Spencer.

yeah, i think there's a line later in the film, as Boyd tells another character what happened, he says that he told Slausson.
