Worst Movie I've seen in a long time

The first thing that irritated me to no end was that the hero Capt. Boyd and Pvt Toffler when faced with the cannibal villain Col. Ives both, instead of shooting Ives, throw their rifles at Ives. So then Ives kills and eats Toffler and the sniveling coward Boyd dives off a cliff rather than fight like a man. Also in the final fight scene Boyd is clobbering Ives with a huge tree limb mortally injuring him. Does he continue? No. He throws it down and starts to strangle Ives whereby Ives stabs Boyd in the back with a long knife. Good thinking Boyd. Then Boyd finally punchers Ives in the head with a huge steel animal trap knowingly springing it off and killing himself in the process.
I've never wanted a hero to die as much as I wanted this cry baby coward Boyd. He was so embarrassing to watch as he ran away again and again from fights in this film. Also, when the new capt comes and Boyd tells his story about everyone getting killed at the cave the Capt said he sent men to check it out and found nothing. Did Boyd forget to tell them to look down the hole to see all the body remains strung up??? The only character I liked was Pvt Reich who had any balls. The other characters that all got killed were pathetic morons that deserved to die.

This was a horror comedy, so things such as a character's actions, circumstances and or situations should not be taken literally or seriously. If this were a traditional horror movie maybe you could complain of such things.

Toffler was a coward. When Ives stabbed the major in the back, his natural instinct took over and instead of fight, he fled. It's not that far-fetched to see happening.

It was also further shown that after Riech falls off the side of the cliff, Boyd shoots him. At this point, Ives can't be considered human anymore; he has become the wendigo of superstition, which allows him to recover pretty quickly from bullet wounds and attacks. What you have to understand is that Boyd was sacrificing himself because he had also tasted human flesh, and he was becoming a wendigo as well.

He was struggling with his own cowardice and this was his way of redeeming himself. By slaying the wendigo, he allowed it not to spread but also to not overcome him should he have been allowed to live. The major was the same way. He realized that he was turning into a monster so he asked to die.

It's sort of a story of redemption if you think about it... The beginning shows Boyd being trapped underneath his fellow soldiers. He even mentions that he tasted their blood in his mouth. This foreshadows the wendigo aspect. It also reinforces the "act of valor" he committed by taking over that fort -- it was the wendigo that gave him the strength to do so. However, because he was cowardly on the battlefield and played dead, that's what forced him to Fort Spencer. The wendigo spirit then goes on to manifest itself in Ives, and finally at the end he destroys both the physical and spiritual representations of the wendigo -- in both Ives and himself.

As far as the cave aspect goes, the wendigo (Ives) probably went back to the cave and cleaned everything up. It's also how he was able to clean himself up and recover from the bullet wound to his shoulder. That's not far-fetched either.

Boyd does tell them about the bodies. When the brass tells him they found the cave, The General says they found no bodies, no rope, no blood trails, etc...

So I guess that should bump this up to second worst movie ever for you.

Hahaha OP this is funny. The first few lines I thought you were serious. It took a second to realize you were trolling. And I was almost going to actually address the stupid points you were trying to raise before I figured out it was a joke. Thank god, because no one could be THAT dense.

reply

Pfft... if this is the worst then you probably haven't seen a lot of movies.

Interesting idea, horrible execution at the end. The final fight scene was awful. I could beat him to death here, but wait, I would rather choke him while he stabs me in the side.

Considering your complaints, I'd re-title the thread as "Worst characters/character motivations and actions I've seen in a long time.".

But personally, faced with a person who is willing to eat me.... I'd run.

We've met before, haven't we?

I think it looked ok for everyone who noticed that Boyd began to look sprightly and self-assured after cutting Hart's throat. Finally, he was out hunting, and on a killing-spree, so no wonder he'd attempt overcoming his foe with bare hands.

It wasn't that bad but I don't understaned the 'hidden gem' claims. This is one of those films that features on 'the best horror films you haven't seen' lists.

It got stuck in no mans land for me. It was a bit goofy but didn't fully commit to the comedy, leaving it in that awkward area of too goofy to be taken seriously and too serious and unfunny to be fun.
